Just after you pass over the bridge that takes you from Oregon to Washington State at Astoria, if you go out to the coast, they’re two lighthouses. These lighthouses were use by the ships to guide themselves into the Columbia River. This is one of those lighthouses. This area is very rich in history! This was the area that the famous explores Lewis and Clark first saw the Pacific Ocean. Just south of this spot, the expedition set up a small encampment and explored the area. The Columbia River inlet is one the to most treacherous river inlets in the world. Many of ships have been lost trying to navigate these waters. The Coast Guard has established a rescue training area here.
